Used-car supermarket group Motor Range, headquartered in Liverpool, has officially taken over the Sytner Select Manchester site (formerly CarShop Manchester), marking a major expansion in the Northwest used car market.

On 22 April 2025, Motor Range acquired the Manchester location from Sytner Group - bringing the retailer’s total footprint to two supersite operations in the Northwest alongside its Liverpool branch. The handover includes onboarding the existing staff, ensuring continuity in operations and customer service.

This Manchester site initially rebranded to Sytner Select Manchester following Sytner’s 2024 strategic review of its CarShop business. However, the group has now opted to dispose of the location entirely, rather than continue under the Sytner Select banner.

Sytner Group, owned by Penske Automotive, has been consolidating its used-car operations. Starting in 2024, the CarShop brand was phased out and replaced by nine Sytner Select superstores nationwide. Select Manchester was part of that rebrand, but recent decisions led to the sale of the Manchester site and closures of branches in Doncaster, Sheffield and Norwich.

The move reflects changing industry pressures: rising operational costs, the acceleration of online car shopping, and broader consolidation trends in the automotive retail sector.

Motor Range’s takeover comes with assurances for existing customers of Sytner Select Manchester that outstanding orders will be fulfilled as previously arranged and service appointments, MOTs, warranties and aftersales support remails operational under the new ownership.

For prospective buyers, Motor Range now offers access to its wider stock and pricing model through both Liverpool and Manchester superstores.

Based in Liverpool, Motor Range operates a large-scale used car supermarket known for listing over 2,000 vehicles between Liverpool and Manchester.
